Orange Defeats Canyon, Ends Losing Streak at 19
After losing 19 straight games over two years, Orange pulled off the unexpected against Canyon Friday night.
With 2 minutes 34 seconds left in the game, Orange quarterback C.J. Joiner connected with John Potter on a 23-yard touchdown pass, giving the Panthers a 14-7 Century League victory at El Modena.
With a playoff spot already clinched, Canyon (3-7, 2-3) scored the first touchdown late in the first quarter as quarterback Jarod Bauer connected with Darryl Parker on a 14-yard pass to put the Comanches on top, 7-0.
Orange got back into the game midway through the second quarter. With 6:17 left in the half, junior Jeremy Poole ran 17 yards, diving over a Canyon defender and into the end zone to tie the score, 7-7.
After a scoreless third quarter, Orange (1-9, 1-4) came alive late in the fourth quarter behind the arm of Joiner.
“Tonight was unbelievable,†said Orange Coach Kevin Capps. “We came out focused, played hard and never gave up. This was a huge win to end our season.â€
Joiner, a senior, completed five of 11 passes for 67 yards and one touchdown.
“Give Orange a lot of credit,†said Canyon Coach Matt McCain. “They played their hearts out.â€
Bauer completed six of 13 passes for 99 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
