Newport Harbor lost one boys’ volleyball match this season. The Southern Section Division I championship served as a chance to avenge that loss.
Matt Jameson had 20 kills and five blocks and setter Ty Tramblie had 68 assists and 34 digs to lead Newport Harbor past Corona del Mar, 16-14, 12-15, 16-14, 15-3, at Cypress College.
Newport Harbor (22-1) shared the Sea View League championship with Corona del Mar (16-3) this season after the teams split their two league matches.
In the Division II final, Santa Barbara San Marcos (22-2) won its first championship since 1991 by defeating Redondo Union (25-4), 15-7, 14-16, 15-9, 12-15, 15-5.
In the Division III final, Santa Ynez won its fourth championship in the past five seasons with a 15-4, 15-8, 15-2 victory over Laguna Beach. Junior Charlie Witt had 12 kills and senior Chris Pena, who will play at UCLA next season, had 11 kills and four blocks for the Pirates.
