No. 1 Santa Ynez (20-3) vs. No. 2 Laguna Beach (14-9)
1 TODAY CYPRESS COLLEGE
Miles McGann, who has signed with USC, is Laguna Beach’s go-to guy and his 46 kills and .600-plus hitting percentage in a three-game quarterfinal victory over Cerritos Valley Christian showed his explosiveness. But Laguna Beach needs big contributions from everyone if it hopes to pull the upset. Santa Ynez will be hungry after losing the season opener to Laguna Beach in four games and stumbling in the 1998 Division III final. The Pirates are in their sixth consecutive final--winning in ‘95, ’96 and ‘97--and they are loaded. Leading the way is Marcus Gilmour (USC), who can also set, and Chris Pena (UCLA).
