A memorial service for acclaimed director Jose Quintero will be held June 7 at 7 p.m. at the Mark Taper Forum. Center Theatre Group artistic director-producer Gordon Davidson, former students and artists with whom Quintero worked, and other members of the film and theater communities will celebrate the artist’s life and work.
Quintero, whose stagings of the works of Eugene O’Neill in the mid-1950s led to a major revival of interest in the playwright’s work, won Tony Awards for his direction on Broadway of O’Neill’s “A Moon for the Misbegotten” and “A Long Day’s Journey Into Night.” A co-founder of the original Circle in the Square in Greenwich Village, Quintero directed more than 50 Broadway and off-Broadway productions, including the 1952 landmark revival of Tennessee Williams’ “Summer and Smoke” with Geraldine Page. Quintero died in February at age 74.
