Trie Ordered Papers Trashed, Worker Says

A woman who worked for President Clinton’s friend, restaurant owner Yah Lin “Charlie” Trie, said her boss told her to get rid of documents sought by a Senate inquiry into campaign fund-raising. Testifying at Trie’s trial in Little Rock, Ark., on obstruction of justice charges, Maria “Dia” Mapili said she spoke to Trie by phone after a U.S. marshal served a subpoena for records in 1997. Trie, a central figure in the controversy over foreign-linked campaign donations, could face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
