Job Training in Inland Empire
In an effort to help meet the Inland Empire’s demand for high-tech workers, the San Bernardino Community College District is planning to build a $2.8-million high-tech training center at the former Norton Air Force Base.
When completed around the end of 2000, the training center will feature six computer-equipped classrooms and a multipurpose lecture hall. Construction is set to begin by the end of the year, after lead and asbestos are removed from the site, said district spokeswoman Mary Sanchez. Nearly $2.5 million in federal and state grants will help pay for the new building, she said.
In addition, the San Bernardino Community College District has formed a consortium with UC Riverside, Cal State San Bernardino and Loma Linda University to help train workers for local technology companies.
