YORBA LINDA

Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District officials and their attorneys met in closed session Tuesday to discuss filing suit against the city and its Redevelopment Agency over unclaimed redevelopment funds that school officials believe the district is owed, a city official said.

Mark Huebsch, an attorney for the school district, refused to comment. Kim Stallings, the district’s assistant superintendent of administrative services, said he had been advised by attorneys not to comment. City Atty. Leonard Hampel said that there has been no communication between his office and the district about any unclaimed funds but that school officials have requested copies of city and redevelopment documents.

The city and the school district have a good relationship, said City Manager Arthur C. Simonian. Although city officials are aware that the school district is conferring with attorneys, that is all they know, Simonian said. The city is not initiating any legal action of its own. “The ball is in their court,” he said. “We don’t know what they are doing.”
