First things first: Working is just my hobby. Sports is my life.

“Daytime Emmys”--The “26th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” will air at 9 p.m. Friday on CBS. A story in Thursday’s Calendar Weekend included an incorrect date.

Let the games begin: We’ll go out Friday night, me and all my buddies, and usually watch a game and have some beers. My favorite bar in the world is Maloney’s in Westwood, which is a sports bar, and my favorite sport is basketball. I’ve played it all my life [including a stint at Moorpark College], so it’s by far my favorite. I was playing in three leagues a week until I broke my leg in March while I was playing. I usually get some Sliders, which are like baby cheeseburgers. And then we’ll go to a club--Sky Bar or Fenix or Garden of Eden.

Key to this man’s heart: I travel a lot on weekends for personal appearances and autograph signings, so when I have a free weekend, the best thing to me is to sit around at home or at a bar and watch games. My girlfriend [schoolteacher Tobe Keeney] lets me watch, which is huge. She’s like one of the guys.

Sultan of slumber: On weekend mornings, I sleep as late as I possibly can, and then I tumble out to the couch to watch whatever sporting event is on TV. Sleeping is probably the thing I do best.

On the mend: This injury [which required a rod and two screws being inserted into his right leg] is the most frustrating thing in the world because I was playing softball two nights a week and basketball three or four nights a week. Athletics run my life, but I’m definitely on the bench now, so I just watch everything--basketball, hockey, baseball. Whatever’s in season, I watch.

Out on the town: I’m not a big diner--my three favorite restaurants are Maloney’s, Hamburger Hamlet and the Cheesecake Factory--but I love to go to games. I go to Dodger games, Laker games, Clipper games. All of them.

One-track mind: I collect sports memorabilia too, so sports encompasses my life. They did a story in USA Today about my collection. It’s pretty extensive.
