Trademark Suit

Pfizer Inc. was sued for more than $100 million by two companies seeking to bar the drug maker from using the name Trovan to market a popular antibiotic. New York-based Pfizer, which introduced the antibiotic in 1998, is accused of misappropriating the trademark of Trovan Ltd., a British company that makes a system of electronic identification devices. Also suing Pfizer is Electronic Identification Devices Ltd., a Santa Barbara company that is the exclusive North American distributor of Trovan’s products. Pfizer had no comment on the suit, filed in federal court in Los Angeles. The suit amends one filed in 1997 to include the request for a court order barring Pfizer from using the name Trovan anywhere in the world.
