Pacific Sunwear of California Inc.: The Anaheim casual clothing retailer reported record results for the first quarter ended May 2. Net income totaled $4 million, or 19 cents a share, a gain of 38% from $2.9 million, or 13 cents a share, for the first quarter of fiscal 1998. Sales increased 33% to $81.4 million from $61.2 million. Sales at stores open at least a year, a key indicator of performance in the industry, increased 7.2% in the first three months. The retailer said it plans to open 108 new stores and relocate or expand 15 of its most productive stores this year, resulting in a 42% increase in store square footage for the year.
