Q Why can’t employers offer part-time employees medical insurance? Part-time employees should at least have some kind of medical insurance program.

A There is no law precluding employers from providing medical insurance to part-time employees. As a practical matter, however, extremely few employers do.

The minimum hours that an employee must work in order to receive medical insurance are set by the employer, after consultation with its insurance company.
