From Times Wire Reports
FAA Administrator Jane Garvey has booked a cross-country flight for New Year’s Eve to make a public display of her confidence in the agency’s readiness for potential Year 2000 computer problems. Garvey will be joined on her journey by the head of the FAA’s Y2K program. They will leave Washington about 6 p.m. EST on Dec. 31 on a regularly scheduled American Airlines flight to Dallas. Garvey will cross the first potential Y2K problem at 7 p.m. EST. That will be midnight Greenwich Mean Time, the time standard used by air traffic control systems and internally by many airlines.
