A memory of Al Hirt (obituary, April 28): Some friends and I spent a month in New Orleans, one week at the 1956 Mardi Gras. And what a week. The most lasting memory of that time was every night we would spend several hours at the Pier 600 listening to the jazz of Al Hirt with his wonderful trumpet and Pete Fountain on clarinet. This memory will last a lifetime for me. Thanks, Al.
