Highland Slams Palmdale, 13-3

Junior Tom Gonzales threw a five-hitter and senior Brandon Golphenee drove in five runs to lead Highland High to a 13-3 victory over host Palmdale in a Golden League baseball game Monday that was called after six innings because of the 10-run rule.

Gonzales (3-2) struck out five and walked two to help Highland (15-6, 9-2 in league play) move into a tie for first place.

Golphenee hit a two-out grand slam in the fifth inning after Palmdale (15-6, 9-2) intentionally walked junior John Santor, who led off the second and fourth with home runs.

Santor scored four runs for Highland, which will play Palmdale in two of its remaining four league games.

In other baseball games:

Camarillo 8, Hueneme 0--Shane Miranda and Spencer Wyman each had two hits and drove in a run for the Scorpions (18-4, 8-1) in a Pacific View League game at Hueneme.

Crespi 11, Glenn 1--Mike Jackson had two hits, two runs batted in and earned the victory in the consolation final of the St. Paul tournament at Valley College. Kris Palomares had three hits, including two doubles, for Crespi (19-5).

BOYS’ TENNIS

Granada Hills 15 1/2, El Camino Real 14--The No. 1 doubles team of Dan Lim and Anand Murthy swept their three opponents, helping the Highlanders (14-1) win seven of nine doubles matches for 10 1/2 points in a City Championship semifinal at Meridian’s Tennis L.A.

James Magsino and Matt Jones, No. 1 and No. 2 singles for El Camino Real (12-3), swept their four opponents.

SOFTBALL

Camarillo 5, Hueneme 0--Kathryn Nevard (11-5) threw a one-hitter and struck out 12 in a Pacific View League game at Camarillo.

Beth Boskovich had a one-out, two-run single to start a four-run first for Camarillo (16-5, 9-0).

Kennedy 6, Granada Hills 0--Patty Del Real (16-2) threw her first no-hitter of the season and struck out nine for Kennedy (19-2, 9-1) in a North Valley League game at Brand Park.

El Camino Real 4, Chatsworth 0--Ashley Redlin threw a one-hitter and struck out 12 to help the Conquistadores (17-3, 9-0) clinch the West Valley League title.
