SEASON AT A GLANCE: The fiery Dickson, a 6-foot-4 middle blocker, has been the emotional leader for Royal, helping the Highlanders reach the No. 1 spot in the Southern Section Division I poll. Dickson, who has signed with Cal State Northridge, leads the Highlanders in kills and blocks.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Dickson had 24 kills in the final against Loyola to help Royal win the championship of the prestigious Redondo tournament for the first time. Dickson, who had 11 kills and four blocks in a semifinal victory over Mira Costa, was selected tournament most valuable player.
GIRLS
Annmarie Turpin
SCHOOL: Simi Valley
YEAR: Senior
SPORT: Track and field
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Turpin is tied for the state lead in the high jump with a best of 5-10. She also has set school records of 58.12 in the 400 meters and 45.59 in the 300 hurdles and leaped a career best 17-5 in the long jump.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Turpin won the 400 in 58.12, the 300 lows in 45.79 and the high jump in 5-6 in the Ventura County championships at Royal High. She also placed second in the long jump in 17-5. “I didn’t feel real good in the hurdles,” Turpin said of her final event of the meet. “I got off to a slow start, but I was able to get it going in the homestretch.”
