Hideo Nomo earned his way back to the major leagues by pitching seven scoreless innings Sunday in Huntsville’s 6-0 victory over Greenville, in a double-A Southern League game at Huntsville, Ala.
Nomo was signed to a minor league contract Thursday by the Milwaukee Brewers. He will be called up Friday, given a $250,000, one-year contract, and start that night at San Francisco.
“This was a very good atmosphere for me today,” Nomo said through a translator. “I was very comfortable throwing the ball. I am looking forward to going back to the major leagues, and I hope to do well.”
Nomo gave up five hits, one walk and struck out seven in Huntsville’s 6-0 victory against Greenville.
Nomo had two hits and drove in two runs.

Mark Wohlers went back to the mound and his control problems came right back.
Wohlers had trouble throwing strikes in his debut with the Cincinnati Reds’ triple-A team. He walked five of the seven batters he faced and threw four wild pitches in one-third of an inning as Indianapolis lost to Toledo, 8-5, at Toledo, Ohio.
It was Wohlers’ first appearance in a game since the Reds acquired him from Atlanta on April 16 for reliever John Hudek.
Wohlers started the sixth inning with Toledo leading, 3-2. He threw 31 pitches, 22 of them balls.
Wohlers got one strikeout, walked five, gave up one hit, struck out one and threw four wild pitches.
Wohlers, 29, set an Atlanta Brave record with 39 saves in 1996, and had 33 the following season. But last year, he was sent to triple-A Richmond twice when his control deteriorated.
