VILLA PARK

The Villa Park Elementary School Restoration Corp. will meet with an architect Tuesday to draw up plans for restoring the 1920s-era school, the city’s only historical site.
The architect, engineers and others have volunteered to help the nonprofit group save the three-building complex, but the Orange Unified School District has yet to give its permission.
District spokeswoman Judith Frutig said Friday that trustees would be willing to consider the plan if it meets safety standards and provides sites for educational programs and instruction. She said the restoration committee would also have to come up with the bulk of the funding but did not specify an amount. Teri Elmendorf, president of the restoration group, said the money needed may be as little as $500,000 but did not disclose the amount the group has collected.
