Both Golden West Swim Teams Lead State Championships

Christian Harcsas won the 100 backstroke in 49.97 seconds and helped Golden West win the 200 medley relay in 1 minute 36.01 seconds and the 800 freestyle relay in 6:47.49 in the state men’s swim meet Friday at Diablo Valley.
Golden West is in first place in the men’s and women’s competitions.
Riza Mariani won the 200 individual medley in 2:08.62 and teamed with Kirsten Rich, Julia Wagner and Alyson Edoff to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:36.42 for Golden West.
Lisa Velez won the 50 backstroke in 27.62 for Orange Coast, which is in third place.
The meet concludes today.
In the Southern California men’s tennis playoffs:
Cappello advances--Saddleback’s John Cappello advanced to today’s quarterfinals with a 6-0, 6-2 victory in singles. Erik Lundblad and Brock Berry advanced in doubles for Saddleback with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
In Orange Empire Conference softball:
Fullerton 2, Irvine Valley 1--Natasha Sisco had Fullerton’s only run batted in and the Hornets scored another run on an error. Angie Veronesi (15-4) pitched three innings for the victory. Irvine Valley is 6-22, 2-18.
Saddleback 8, Orange Coast 0 (5, mercy)--Tara Kroener (26-10) pitched a shutout and went three for four at the plate, with a double, triple, and had three RBIs for host Saddleback (32-12-1, 14-6).
