Frank Childress, an assistant football coach at Burbank High, has been promoted to head coach.

He replaces Wally Luetje, who guided the Bulldogs to a 1-9 record in his only season as coach. Burbank wanted an on-campus coach, leading to Luetje’s departure, according to Athletic Director Frank Kallem.

* Pierce College is holding a football clinic for high school and youth coaches on May 15 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Brahma Coach David Banuelos said several coaches from four-year schools are scheduled to speak.

Cost is $30 per person prepaid, $35 at the door or $100 for a four-coach group.

BASKETBALL

* Adam Jacobsen, a former Times’ All-Valley selection at Crescenta Valley High and All-Big West Conference guard at Pacific, has been hired as an assistant coach for Pacific.

Coach Bob Thomason, who guided the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament and NIT the last two seasons, said Jacobsen’s duties would include assisting with recruiting and working individually with players.

Jacobsen graduated from Pacific in 1996 with a degree in sports sciences and is finishing his Master’s degree this spring.

He is the career three-point and assists leader at Pacific and his 311 three-pointers is the Big West Conference record. He averaged 12.6 points in 120 games.

GOLF

* College of the Canyons will offer women’s golf for the first time in the fall.

A golf class will be offered and the team will be chosen from the class. Golfers of all ages are welcome.
