Doherty to Irish; Lavin Has New Pact
Associated Press
Matt Doherty, a Kansas assistant who played with Michael Jordan when North Carolina won the 1982 NCAA title, was hired Tuesday as basketball coach at Notre Dame.
Doherty, 37, an excellent recruiter, inherits a program that had only three winning seasons during its eight years with John MacLeod, who quit under pressure March 9.
The Irish, whose only appearance in the Final Four was in 1978, finished this season 14-16.
