Good to Go
Catalina’s Market makes great empanadas to tuck in a lunch box or serve as appetizers or a light main dish. The Hollywood-area market specializes in Latino foods, so it’s a good place to shop for these savory filled pastries. One morning, we picked up steaming hot chicken empanadas and beef empanadas that contained nicely seasoned ground beef mixed with a bit of hard-boiled egg. Both came straight from the oven, but the market will deep-fry them if you prefer.
Empanadas, 75 cents each at Catalina’s Market, 1070 N. Western Ave., Los Angeles; (323) 461-2535.
