YMCA Award Goes to Board Member

* Loretta Merewether of Ventura was honored by the YMCA with its national Distinguished Service Award. Merewether has served on the volunteer board of managers for the Ventura Family YMCA since 1989. She also serves as a representative of the corporate board of directors for the Channel Islands YMCA, which incorporates YMCAs from Camarillo to Santa Barbara.

Hueneme High Senior Wins Scholarship

* Matthew Laitner, a senior at Hueneme High School, received a $500 scholarship from the Western Assn. of Educational Opportunity Personnel. Laitner received the award based on his academic achievements, which include a 4.67 GPA.
