Recycling Program Offers Free Motor Oil
To promote recycling of motor oil, a group of public and private organizations is offering free re-refined oil for use in vehicles of Ventura County businesses.
Each business is entitled to 55 gallons while supplies last. Businesses can also receive six test kits to determine problems in their vehicles.
Businesses are eligible for the program if they either purchase oil by the quart or have their vehicles’ oil changed at service stations.
“We want to prove to people that re-refined oil is as good or better as oil made from crude,†said David Goldstein, an analyst with the county’s solid waste management department. “It can perform as well or better than oil made from crude even in the toughest situations.â€
The county’s fleet of cars and trucks, including Sheriff’s Department vehicles, uses recycled oil.
The free oil program is sponsored by a grant from the California Integrated Waste Management Board and is being promoted by the Re-Refined Oil Marketing Assn., which includes several area companies, the county and the cities of Moorpark, Oxnard and Thousand Oaks.
Interested businesses should call 648-9242.
