Hart’s Norton Was Ready to Choose
Patrick Norton of Hart High said the time was right to make an early commitment to UCLA. Norton, a 6-foot-2, 255-pound junior fullback, accepted a scholarship for 2000 on Saturday night.
“You can only think about it so many times,” he said. “They [UCLA] said they were only taking one fullback. I felt real comfortable there. This is what I want and it took me three weeks to figure it out.”
Alemany and Chatsworth have reached an agreement to play at Alemany in their second nonleague game next season. It sets up a meeting between USC-bound quarterback Matt Cassel of Chatsworth and highly regarded quarterback Casey Clausen of Alemany.
BASKETBALL
Tim Guy has resigned as boys’ basketball coach at Kennedy High to accept an administrative position at Dorsey. Guy was coach for two seasons.
SOCCER
Midfielders Carlos Morales of Reseda and Bryan Jackson of La Canada have been selected to the Parade magazine All-American soccer team.
VOLLEYBALL
Alemany outside hitter Sasha Hernandez has signed with Regis (Colo.), a Division II power.
Hernandez, who missed most of last season because of a knee injury, was a two-time All-Mission League selection.
WATER POLO
A club team from Harvard-Westlake won the Calgary Open, beating Vancouver, 13-10, for the gold medal.
Ted Zepfel, a sophomore, scored 18 goals in the tournament.
