Volleyball
Hinkle had two solid matches as the Anteaters defeated Cal State Northridge and 10th-ranked Pacific last week.
Hinkle, a junior setter, had 76 assists and 16 digs against Northridge. He had 83 assists and 18 digs against Pacific.
THIS WEEK
Men’s volleyball: The Anteaters are rolling, having won five of their last six, and are ranked 15th nationally. Behind the play of Mike Rupp and Donnie Rafter, they have beaten second-ranked UCLA and 10th-ranked Pacific in the last two weeks. Irvine, at 8-7 (6-6 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play), is one victory shy of the school record. The Anteaters host Ball State Thursday and 14th-ranked Loyola of Chicago Friday. Both matches are at 7 p.m.
Track and field: Anita Sampson went 18 feet 9 3/4 inches to win the long jump Saturday at the All-Cal Challenge at UCI. It was the third consecutive week she has won the long jump. She also won the triple jump. Robert Frichtel won the 800 and 1,500 meters. Irvine competes in the Ben Brown meet Saturday at Cal State Fullerton. Field events begin at 9 a.m. Running events begin at 10 a.m.
Men’s tennis: The doubles team of Chris Chung and Chris Ma is ranked 41st nationally. They are 5-2 this season. Irvine hosts Wisconsin Wednesday and American University Saturday. Both matches begin at 1:30 p.m.
Women’s tennis: Irvine hosts Pennsylvania today and Penn State Wednesday. Both matches begin at 1:30 p.m.
Golf: The Anteaters finish play in the Aldila Collegiate Classic at the Carlton Oaks Country Club in San Diego today.
