* Paul Dixon of Simi Valley has received the 1998 Rockwell Science Center Administrator of the Year award. He was chosen for his initiative, skill and creativity in improving the computer support help desk, which he supervises.
The science center in Thousand Oaks is the principal research laboratory of Rockwell, an electronics and communications company.

* Julie-Anne O’Rear, a legal assistant with Norman, Dowler, Sawyer, Israel & Hancock in Ventura, has passed the civil litigation exam of the California Advanced Specialty certification program. The program is sponsored by the National Assn. of Legal Assistants and the Commission for Advanced California Paralegal Specializations.
O’Rear is one of 15 paralegals in California who are entitled to use the CAS professional designation.

* David M. Smith of the Ventura County Star has been installed as president of the board of directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Camarillo. Other officers include Maggie Kildee, retired Ventura County supervisor, president-elect; attorney Sue Cenzie, vice president; Alice Madrid of City National Bank, secretary; and Jim Williams of West Coast Capital Corp., treasurer.
Immediate past president Pat Richards of City National Bank will also serve on the executive committee.
