Toys Honoring Firefighter Raise Funds for Charity
LOS ANGELES — Sales of miniature firetrucks, created in memory of late Los Angeles Fire Capt. Joseph C. Dupee, have generated about $24,000 in donations for widows and orphans of firefighters, officials said Monday on the one-year anniversary of Dupee’s death.
“They’re selling really well,” said Doreen Imperial, store manager of the Dalmatian’s Fire House.
The Los Angeles Firemen’s Relief Assn., which assists widows and orphans of firefighters in addition to disabled firefighters, runs the store on Temple Street.
Imperial said 3,000 of the miniature firetrucks--a replica of Dupee’s Engine 57--were made, and about 2,000 have been sold for $24 each since December.
Dupee, a 17-year veteran of the department, was killed while fighting a structure fire in South-Central. His death marked the first fatality in the department in 14 years. He is survived by his wife, Julie, and their two sons.
