Mayoral candidate Roy Begley on Monday withdrew from today’s election and endorsed Councilwoman Ann-Marie Villicana for mayor.

Begley, 72, a community activist who regularly attends City Council meetings, said Villicana’s politics are reflective of his own. Both are Republicans.

“Ann-Marie and I agree on many issues, from public safety and gang violence,” Begley said.

Among the 10 mayoral candidates, Villicana, Mayor Chris Holden, former Mayor Bill Bogaard and Councilman William Paparian are the front-runners in today’s election.

Last November, Pasadena voters opted to replace its ceremonial mayor--chosen by the council from it ranks--with an elected one.
