Man, 26, Suspected of Transporting Pot
SANTA PAULA — A 26-year-old man was arrested Sunday morning when a drug-sniffing police dog found half a pound of marijuana hidden in his car, officers said.
Ruben De La Cruz of Santa Paula remained in Ventura County Jail on Sunday night on suspicion of transporting cannabis. His bail was set at $10,000, a deputy said.
De La Cruz was arrested shortly before 11 a.m. at a liquor store parking lot on Dean Drive, said Santa Paula Police Officer Joey de los Reyes.
Officers responded after an anonymous caller tipped them to an alleged drug deal underway. De La Cruz consented to a search of his car, De los Reyes said.
The police dog located the marijuana under a spare tire cover in the trunk, under clothing in the back seat and in a side panel in the car, De los Reyes said.
