Lions Clubs Honor Students From Decathlon
* Camarillo/Somis Pleasant Valley and the El Rio Lions clubs honored the three top-scoring students in the Ventura County Academic Decathlon.
Dennis Hsieh, a senior at Adolfo Camarillo High School and the top overall scorer, and Rio Mesa High School seniors Rachelle Gould and Collin Lieberg each received a $500 scholarship.
McKinna Classroom Receives 2 Grants
* The fifth- and sixth-grade classroom of Bijou S. Beltran at McKinna Elementary School in Oxnard received two grants administered by the Ventura County Community Foundation.
A $600 grant was provided by the Virginia Faria Baptiste/Faria Family Fund; and $1,250 was provided by an anonymous donor fund.
The money will be used to purchase AlphaSmart keyboards, which are small word processors that will be used in writing workshops.
Children’s Museum Awarded $5,000
* Gull Wings Children’s Museum in Oxnard received a $5,000 grant from the Martin V. and Martha K. Smith Foundation. The grant, administered by the Ventura County Community Foundation, will be used for programs and exhibits.
