TEHRAN — Iranian President Mohammad Khatami’s eldest sister, a former official in women’s affairs, has been elected in Iran’s nationwide local elections.
Fatemeh Khatami, 61, a mother of six, topped the field of candidates in the central desert town of Ardakan, the president’s hometown.
“I do not like to give interviews about myself. All I can say is that I hope I will be able to serve the people,” Khatami said Tuesday.
She said she left her job as an advisor in women’s affairs to the provincial governor to run in Iran’s first council elections.
