The City Council gave unanimous approval to the 1999-2001 budget Monday night. Minor changes to the $84.7-million spending plan reviewed at a budget workshop last week include a $25,000 increase for community service programs that solicit contributions from the city. The fund will now be at $75,000 each year, and all requests will continue to go through the city’s Community Services Commission. The change was made in part to accommodate a donation to the Fun With Chalk charity event.
Highlights of the city’s second two-year budget include an increase in reserve funds, 18 capital improvement projects and a shift from temporary to permanent status for several city employees.
