LOS ANGELES — A top deputy has been appointed interim executive director of Los Angeles World Airports.
Lydia H. Kennard, who has served as the system’s first deputy executive director for five years, will take over her new position Aug. 18. She will replace retiring Executive Director John Driscoll.
Los Angeles World Airports includes Los Angeles International Airport, Ontario International Airport, Palmdale Regional Airport and Van Nuys Airport.
As first deputy executive director, Kennard managed an annual capital improvement budget of $600 million, which financed construction and engineering projects. She also managed a $250-million annual soundproofing program.
For the last year, she has supervised the LAX Master Plan, a program to expand the airport to accommodate projected increases in passengers and cargo.
“With her vast experience, knowledge and understanding of airport operations, I am confident Lydia Kennard will lead a smooth transition,” said Mayor Richard Riordan.
Kennard was a member of the Los Angeles Planning Commission from 1991 to 1993. She previously was president of KDG Development Construction Consulting, a Los Angeles-based firm.
