On March 29, a lone male occupant of a Jeep Cherokee led as many as 10 Los Angeles Police Department patrol units slowly and circuitously through Sherman Oaks. The pursuit ended--after 45-plus minutes--in the alley of a self-storage facility, where police cuffed him. Here are the final seconds of the chase, as called by KABC’s 6 o’clock news team of Mark Brown and Michelle Tuzee, with the camera and reporter Scott Reiff over the scene in a helicopter.
SR: I lost him.
MB: He’s behind the big building there.
SR: Wow. He’s just weaving through these little angles here.
MB: Right.
SR: He’s gonna come right at us here in a moment.
MB: He’s between the buildings now.
SR: He made another turn and got right back into the same type situation. I believe that’s a dead-end there. We’ll see here in just a moment. Oh, the PD have shut this off.
MB: There it is.
SR: There we go. It looks like he’s stopped.
MB: There it is. There it is.
SR: They have shut him down. He’s gonna have to ram that [fence] ...
All: OOOOOH!
SR: He went right through that and hit the [patrol] car. He hit the car!
