DreamWorks Scraps Project
The headline “DreamWorks Kills Studio Plan for Playa Vista†(July 2) struck deep in the hearts of not only Playa Vista but Westchester, Culver City, Marina del Rey and Venice as well.
Had the obstructionists, who threw lawsuits and delays upon delays, allowed the DreamWorks project to proceed three years ago when costs of financing and construction were more reasonable, the jobs and economy of the area would still be in the “works of the dream.â€
It is so sad that those who only see negativity can strike down the bright future that DreamWorks offered.

The Times calls DreamWorks abandoning Playa Vista a “broken dream.†I call it a nightmare deferred. Shame on you for continuing to cover this story as jobs versus endangered species.
I’ve lived on the Westside for 21 years and have watched traffic increasingly clog surface streets and freeways. The 405 between the 10 and LAX is already a disaster. Playa Vista would bring 200,000 more car trips a day to an already traffic-choked area.
What’s even more galling is to read that the millions of dollars needed to close the deal are a “tip†to the super-rich elite involved in this project. So why was the city of Los Angeles giving away $35 million collected from working people as tax credits for millionaires and billionaires? Not only do we get traffic and pollution--we get to pay for it. What a deal?

Typical Hollywood. Big noise. Big deal. Big nothing!
