The Chamber of Commerce will honor the best and brightest in the public service field at its 36th annual luncheon Friday at Westin South Coast Plaza. The awards ceremony, which begins at 11:30 a.m., will recognize those who have made significant contributions beyond their everyday workload. Attending the luncheon will be Police Chief Dave Snowden, Fire Chief Frank Fantino and representatives from the offices of state Sen. Ross Johnson and Assemblywoman Marilyn Brewer.
Some of those who will receive an award for outstanding service are Keith Davis, police officer of the year, who was instrumental in revising the city’s massage and adult entertainment ordinances to require a stringent application procedure; Doneen Westenhaver, civilian of the year, who has been with the Police Department for 12 years and is now the chief’s secretary; and Capt. Eric Johnson, firefighter of the year, who initiated a special rescue program for cities like Costa Mesa.
