Real Reason for High Car Insurance Rates

Greg Burk is wrong when he states the reason for high auto insurance rates is discrimination [“Quake, Auto Rates? No Comparison,” Letters, Jan. 24].
The reason is claims experience. Some of the highest rates are in Beverly Hills where the people are rich, the cars expensive, the lawyers outnumber the cars and are willing to sue at the nick of a fender or the whip of a lash. The cheapest rates are in rural areas where the livestock outnumber the people, the cars and the lawyers.
