71 Militants Held in Police Roundup

Security forces have arrested 71 suspected Muslim militants for plotting to kill senior government officials and police, authorities said. Police detained 43 militants during the last three days in Cairo and in the provinces of Qalyubiya and Minufiya, authorities said. Those detainees were believed to be members of Gamaa al Islamiya, or the Islamic Group, Egypt’s most powerful militant organization. Police also detained 28 militants in the district of Giza outside Cairo.
