Making Connections
More than 70 million Americans 12 and older have tried marijuana. Among kids 12 to 17, the average age was 13 1/2 for their first try.
If you’re wondering how and when to talk to your kids about drugs, contact the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information. The agency has many free pamphlets in English and Spanish to help parents and teachers address prevention and treatment of drug abuse.
The agency provides treatment referrals and has drug-abuse prevention videos, geared for children from first grade through adulthood, available at a nominal cost.
