Davis Makes Clinton a State ‘Citizen’
Gov. Gray Davis has named President Clinton an honorary citizen of the state on his 43rd trip to California since winning the White House.
“He, as you know, is a son of Arkansas, but he has been here so often during the last six years that I am making him an honorary citizen of California,” Davis told a rowdy crowd of Democratic donors at the Century Plaza Hotel on Friday night.
Clinton was spending part of the weekend in Los Angeles enjoying the activities he usually engages in here: fund-raising, partying with wealthy friends and golfing.
He also delivered his weekly radio address, saying that makers of cars and child-safety seats will be required to adopt a common means of attaching the devices as part of an effort to save dozens of children’s lives each year.
“With this new rule . . . we can save lives and prevent up to 3,000 injuries per year,” Clinton said.
Clinton traveled Saturday to Park City, Utah, to meet his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and daughter, Chelsea, for a few days of rest and relaxation to celebrate Chelsea’s 19th birthday. The family will stay in the mountain hideaway of Hollywood friend Jeffrey Katzenberg.
