Ron Corona
Cypress, Sophomore
Baseball
Corona, from Victor Valley High, turned in the most dominant performance by a pitcher so far this season. The sophomore right-hander set a Cypress single-game record with 17 strikeouts as he pitched a five-hitter in a 4-0 victory over College of the Sequoias. Corona didn’t walk a batter. He is 2-0.
Baseball
Richard Lane
* Santa Ana, freshman. Went 11 for 19 with four home runs (he has nine overall) and 13 RBIs in four games.
Betsy Holman
Saddleback, Freshman
Basketball
This season was a reunion of sorts for Holman. She played two seasons at Loara for Vicki Mallett, now her coach at Saddleback. Holman moved to North Carolina but returned this year. She scored 20 points and got nine rebounds in a loss to Fullerton, then had 20 points and eight rebounds in a victory over Riverside.
Basketball
Kelly Medlen
* Golden West, freshman. Scored 42 points, making nine of 17 three-pointers, in two games.
