Strickland to Co-Chair GOP Panel
Assemblyman Tony Strickland (R-Thousand Oaks) will co-chair a Republican study group on welfare reform.
The Republican Task Force to Strengthen Welfare Reform has listed enforcing work requirements and preserving time limits for welfare recipients among its top legislative goals for the 1999 session.
Assembly Republican Leader Rod Pacheco (R-Riverside) formed the task force and appointed Strickland to the panel’s No. 2 post Wednesday, which was Strickland’s 29th birthday. Assemblyman Roy Ashburn (R-Bakersfield) will serve as chairman of the 15-member group.
Strickland, whose district includes Oxnard, Camarillo, Moorpark and Thousand Oaks, already sits on the GOP’s education task force. He also is one of several minority whips and is vice chairman of the Assembly’s Ethics Committee.
