Teacher Warranty
* In “University Offers Warranty on Teachers It Graduates” (Feb. 13), the following startling quote is attributed to Colleen Bentley-Adler, spokeswoman for California State University Chancellor Charles Reed: “They do it for cars, we ought to be willing to do it for people.”
I wonder how Bentley-Adler, who falls under the people category for me, would react if her husband said, “Darling, we have been married long enough, I think that I would like a newer, sportier wife.” Would she, like a car, go without any fuss? When was the last time you sent flowers to your car? People are not cars, nor should we ever talk of them as if they were commodities.
