Thief of Munch’s ‘Scream’ Flees on Jail Excursion

OSLO — Norwegian police hunted Thursday for a man jailed for the 1994 theft of Edvard Munch’s masterpiece “The Scream” after he quietly walked away from a prison excursion.
Paal Enger, sentenced to 6 1/2 years in jail for stealing the 1893 painting of an anguished figure beneath a blood-red sky, slipped away Wednesday from a group of prisoners visiting Oslo’s new airport.
