Server Prices Cut

Compaq Computer Corp. slashed prices on its ProLiant 800 work-group servers by up to 23%, with new prices starting at $1,529. The computer maker has a 32.3% share of the U.S. market in PC servers, which manage data on networks. Compaq also announced a promotion giving customers the opportunity to buy a second processor for 75% off when they buy a ProLiant 3000 333- or 400-megahertz model.
