UCI Women Pick Up Basketball Victory

Shannon Anders had a game-high 19 points, leading UC Irvine to a 69-51 victory over Cal State Fullerton in Big West Conference women’s basketball Sunday at Titan Gym.

The Anteaters quickly took charge, jumping out to a 40-25 first-half lead.

Titan leading scorer Erin Whiteside had 16 points, most of them in the first half. But UC Irvine was able to shut her down in the second. Whiteside also had 16 rebounds.

Chelsea Mackey scored 14 points and had seven rebounds for the Anteaters.

UC Irvine improved to 9-12, 5-5. CS Fullerton dropped to 3-17, 1-8.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Chapman 78, UC Santa Cruz 50--A balanced attack and an aggressive defense were the keys for Chapman. The Panthers had six players in double figures, and outrebounded the Banana Slugs, 50-26.

Trisha King had 14 points and eight assists to lead Chapman (13-8).
