Campbell Says It Was Tough Call

If he had it to do over again, said Colin Campbell, the NHL’s senior vice president and director of hockey operations, Dallas Drake might have gotten more than a four-game suspension for nailing the Kings’ Doug Bodger from behind in a game at Phoenix on Dec. 28.

Campbell, at the Great Western Forum on Thursday night for the Kings-Chicago Blackhawks game, called the suspension “a tough one. How can you get inside a player’s head? Did he mean to do it? You have to look at circumstances to make the right call.”

In this case, the circumstances involved Bodger’s hitting Jeremy Roenick cleanly earlier in the game.

Bodger sat out six games because of a cervical sprain suffered when hit by Drake.
