David Banuelos, a Moorpark College football assistant the last six seasons, will be hired as head coach at Pierce, sources said. An announcement is expected to be made Thursday.
Banuelos, 28, was offensive line coach at Moorpark, one of the premier junior college programs in the state.
He graduated from St. Bernard High and Cal Lutheran, and received a master’s degree in physical education from Azusa Pacific.
Banuelos was among seven finalists that included former Rich Lawson, former Chaminade coach who is coach at Malibu.
Bob Lyons, Pierce’s athletic director, declined to confirm the appointment. He said the school had not finalized the process.
Bill Norton resigned in December after eight seasons as the Brahmas’ coach.
