Devin Montgomery
School: Alemany
Year: Senior
Sport: Basketball
Season at a glance: Montgomery, a guard who is averaging 22.8 points, has helped keep Alemany in the hunt for the Mission League title. A strong one-one-one player and outside shooter, he teams with Bryson Atkins to form one of the region’s best backcourts.
Week at a glance: Montgomery scored 28 points against Notre Dame and 31 against Harvard-Westlake in league victories. He was nearly unstoppable against Harvard-Westlake, continually beating defenders in the second half to help the Indians pull away.
Girls
Heather Zubis
School: Valencia
Year: Senior
Sport: Soccer
Season at a glance: Zubis, a 5-foot-7 striker and four-year varsity player, has scored 20 goals, five in Foothill League play. The Vikings (12-2-5, 4-2 in league play) are in third place, trailing Saugus and Canyon.
Week at a glance: Zubis scored goals in the first and second half to give Valencia a 2-0 lead in an eventual 3-1 upset of Hart, the five-time defending league champion. It was the Vikings’ first victory over the Indians in the program’s four-year history.
