No. 1 Newport Harbor Tops No. 10 Corona del Mar
Kyndra Cox scored two goals and Katherine Belden and Erin Ball each scored one as top-ranked Newport Harbor defeated No. 10 Corona del Mar, 4-3, in a nonleague girls’ water polo game Thursday.
The score was tied, 2-2, after the first quarter, but Newport Harbor scored in the third and fourth quarters. Danielle Carlson, Melinda Tucker and Danielle DiJacoma scored for the Sea Kings.
In the Whittier Pioneer girls’ soccer tournament:
Santa Fe Springs St. Paul 1, Whittier Christian 1 (St. Paul wins on penalty kicks, 4-3)--Ashley Plant scored in the second minute for the Heralds (6-6) in the third-place game , but St. Paul tied the score three minutes later with a goal by Nicole Taylor. The Heralds lost to Riverside La Sierra, 4-2, in an earlier semifinal. Marci Herrera scored two goals for Whittier Christian in that game.
